Waco Freeman [P] (click on sire names for ABRI animal details)
Freeman is a sire that has contributed so much to our stud herd and probably the breed. He had a phenomenal constitution with good muscle and this is usually very evident in his progeny. This fact was backed up by the feed conversion trial done by the SGBA, when his progeny needed less feed to gain a kilo of weight. In 1995, Freeman was Grand Champion at Brisbane and Adelaide [going on to be All Breeds Champion pair with Emerald in Adelaide], Reserve Senior at Sydney Royal. In turn, twelve of his progeny have been broad ribbon winners at Royal and Major Feature Shows; Four Grand Champion Bulls at Brisbane, Jasper, Knight, Landlord and Omen have all been by Freeman. Two sons have been Champion Bull of All Breeds at Brisbane and Sydney Royals, Knight and Landlord. More recently Squire was Grand Champion at Beef 2006. Eighty nine bulls have sold to average $8 500. Top selling bull has been Waco Tex going to the Sargood Family for $46 000. Trendy was purchased for $37 500 by the Strathmore Stud, Dangarfield Stud purchased Kidnap for $32 000, Graham Ross Family purchased brothers Tory and Titan for $30 000 each and Stanbroke bought Kipper earlier for $30 000. Freeman is still a trait leader for 200D, 400D, 600D, CWT, EMA, RBY traits in the 2008 Sire Summary, in the top 1% for EMA and RBY%. He was a frame score 9 bull with a scrotal of 41cm.

Unfortunately Franklin died in December 2001, nine years old. Franklin is one of the most highly valued sires ever used in our stud, not only for his excellent sale prices and Show Champions, but also for the productive breeders retained in the herd. Franklin was Junior Champion at Beef 94 and Brisbane, Reserve Senior at Adelaide [shown at the same time as Freeman]. He has produced eleven progeny who have all won Broad ribbons at royal shows or major feature shows, who have then helped win the sire's progeny classes at those shows. Seventy two bulls have averaged $7632 with a top price of $28,000 for Levi purchased by the Tara Stud. Eight bulls have sold for $20,000 or more. Franklin was a frame score 9+ bull with a scrotal of 42 cms.

Landlord is a very high weight gain bull with a large amount of muscle; when you add structural correctness, you can see why he had such a great show career. Landlord was Grand Champion at both Sydney & Brisbane Royals and went on to win All Breeds Champion Bull at Sydney. We consider Landlord to be one of our top producing sires; nine sons have been retained in the stud; fifty bulls have sold for an average of $5995 with top prices of $23,000 for Option going to the Longreach Ag College, and $17,000 for Pasadena [P] going to the Oakdale Stud, Chinchilla. Landlord progeny have been top selling animals at several other Stud Auction Sales with $36,000 and $30,000 bulls & a $13,000 heifer in 2006, which shows he performs well in other herds as well. Successful show progeny for Landlord include Peace [P] [Reserve Junior Champion at Brisbane 2004], Precious & Radar [P], both Grand Champions at the 2006 Toowoomba Royal: Ruthless [P] was Senior & Grand Champion at the 2006 Brisbane Royal,, Samson was the 2008 Sydney and Brisbane Grand Champion. Matrix is a bull with a definite sirey presence; if he doesn't have a cow in season then he will make one up. While he is not the tallest bull in the world at an 8+ frame score, he carries a ton of meat or muscle on an extremely long structurally sound body. The combination of these features with good breed character produces a very well balanced bull that is appealing to the eye. He has a good show career backed up with good performance figures, being a trait leader for 200D, 400D and CWT in the 2007 Sire Summary. In 2001 he was Junior Champion at the Warwick Feature Show, Sydney Royal and class winner at the Brisbane Ekka. Waco Nightcap has exhibited wonderful smooth muscling all his life, which indicates that he has a good constitution with the ability to lay down fat. Omen had a very successful show career until he badly injured his hind quarter. In 2003 he was Junior & Grand Champion at the Sydney Royal, Junior Champion at Beef 2003 and Senior & Grand Champion at the Brisbane Royal. Omen was kept as a stud sire to pass on his valuable commercial characteristics. He showed terrific body development at a young age and outstanding weight gain ability or constitution to make this development take place. Omen has a friendly nature, a good sheath, 48 cms scrotum at 24 mths. He has passed his valuable attributes on to his progeny, which again highlights the remarkable pre-potency of his sire Waco Freeman [P]. Omen is a trait leader for 200D, 400D and SS in the 2006 Sire Summary.

Oklahoma is a very pleasing bull to look at - like a good movie. His eye appeal comes from a balanced combination of ideal Santa characteristics, being a cherry red colour with a slick coat type, a masculine polled head with a kind eye, a totally correct frame covered with heaps of soft muscle. His sheath is ideal, his testicles are large [39.5cm at 20 months of age]: he glides over the ground and has a great outlook. Oklahoma is stamping his progeny and his daughters are proving to be great breeders of good quality calves. Sixteen bulls have averaged $6750 with a top of $14,000 twice - Settler [PS] purchased by the Masterson Family at Greenvale and Signor [P] going to Torres Park Grazing.
Sire: Yarrawonga Kilt

Outrank [PS] is a big, long bull with good character. He is always fat, so his constitution is obviously very good. We have some promising sale bulls and weaners by Outrank [PS] and we are pleased with his progeny.
Sire: Yarrawonga Franklin

|
A placid bos indicus beef machine sums up Promoter [PS] and is the reason he was retained as a sire in the stud. His slick coat on a fine flexible skin type does not alter with winter frosts. An ideal fine sheath with 40cms testes allows him to perform well during the working period. Promoter [PS] is structurally sound, agile and was a good ambassador for the Santa breed winning the Sydney Royal Reserve Senior Champion & Roma Tropical Bull in 2005. The Matrix bloodline, therefore Promoter [PS], are noted for their low birth weight calves, ideal heifer bulls.
Sire: Yarrawonga Matrix [P]

Picaso is a bull with a huge body volume. He was retained in the stud to maintain weight gain ability in the herd, and his progeny have inherited this desirable trait. Fertility is also another strong point for Picaso, over fifty calves recorded last season.
Sire: Waco Mascot

Waco Radar has an extremely exciting calf crop this year, and feel sure he will be well represented in our show team next year. They are due to be weaned and the majority are exhibiting their sire's wonderful muscle, maturity pattern with more growth than expected and all have a quiet nature. Radar was a successful show bull, winning a blue ribbon in the large 22-24mths class at the 2005 Brisbane Royal and weighed 1174kg when he came third in the 30-42mths class in Brisbane the following year.
Sire: Waco Landlord [P]

Rattler was retained in the stud to maintain size, length and character. He is still in good, strong condition despite being mated to sixty cows from an AI program. We expect to see his male progeny in the 2008 sale team by Rattler.
Sire: Waco Nuclear

Romeo has huge charisma and appeal and this helped him win many broad ribbons. In 2005 he was Junior Champion at both the Sydney Royal and large Goondiwindi Feature Show and winner in the strongly contested 22-24mths class at the Brisbane Royal. In 2006 he was Grand Champion Bull and Supreme Exhibit at the Sydney Royal and Reserve Senior at the Brisbane Ekka. Waco Squire [P], a full brother to Waco Landlord [P], is a calf from the first embryo program conducted since 1987. We value Landlord [P] highly and expect Squire [P] to contribute as much to the stud with his excellent sheath, character, muscle and constitution. Squire is used as our ‘go to' bull in embryo programs for his high libido. His greatest achievement in the show ring was Junior and Grand Champion at Beef 2006 at Rockhampton. Squire's siblings from the same ET program were - Tex [P], Reserve Junior Champion Sydney Royal 2007 and sold for top sale price $46,000 to the Sargood family at Augathella; Titan [P] sold to Graham Ross, Nebo for $30,000; Triumph [P] went to the Pearson Family Tambo for $24,000 and Tudor crossed the border to Jeff Baker at Narrabri for $22,000.

Samson was Junior Champion at the 2006 Sydney Royal and followed up in 2007 and was Grand Champion Bull and Supreme Exhibit. He is one of the few bulls that completed the double by achieving the Grand Champion ribbon at the 2007 Brisbane Ekka as well. Samson has some very promising calves about to be weaned.

Ovation was purchased at the 2003 Northern Breeders Sale at Tamworth for the sum of $16,000. We considered Ovation to be the bull that suited our requirements best in that offering. He is a long beefy bull standing on good bone and feet, has an excellent sheath and 42 cms scrotum. In addition, Ovation shows good Santa characteristics with a slick cherry red coat and looseness of hide. He has a masculine poll head and is extremely placid. These sale bulls are from his first calf crop.

|
Glencol 270 was purchased at the 2001 Rockhampton Bull sale for the top price of $24,000. He has great length & constitution and is very valuable to us for his outside bloodline. It was unusual to see that 70% of his first calf crop was heifers and these females have proven to be good, regular breeders. Thirty seven bulls have sold for an average of $5,128, top prices being $15,000 for Rhodes going to the A.A. Co and $12,000 for Remington, going to the Kemmis Creek Stud, Nebo.
